Is The Brazilian Keratin Treatment Safe

By Tammie Caldwell

In this day and age people spend a lot of money and time on their appearance. Hair, especially, receives particular attention. A person with well styled hair is a person that goes to some lengths to make sure that there appearances are favourable. It is interesting to note that so many people with straight hair pay money to curl it whilst people with wavy hair spend a fortune to have it straightened. Perhaps that is why the Brazilian keratin treatment has become so popular.

People have always paid a lot of attention to their hair. Styles have changed over the centuries but the desire to have straight or wavy hair is universal. To this day people pay a lot of money to to keep their hair in a certain style, even if it requires drastic treatment. Just think about perms, for example. It is a huge business.

Keratin is a protein that covers the hair. Proponents of this treatment says that it will not only straighten the hair, but also leave it soft, nourished and shiny. By applying a compound rich in this substance, they say, the hair will not only be straightened but also nourished. There are numerous websites advocating this method and people from all over the world flock towards it.

Despite criticism, those who believe in this treatment defend it ferociously. They like the idea that their hair looks the way they want it to look. They like the idea that they are able to change their hair the way they want to. If there is a negative side to the treatment they do not want to know about it. Results count, do they not.

Do not think that this treatment does not have critics. In fact, their are many of them. They say that the treatment causes hair loss, permanent damage to the hair, split ends and dryness that will cause a small fortune to heal. In fact, there is a high likelihood that those using this treatment will suffer hair loss, brittleness and loss of hair lustre.

This treatment has come under attack from several sources, including OSHA. They say that this treatment is harmful, that it not only harms the hair of the clients but that it poses other dangers. They say that hair loss, brittleness and even other health problems are inherent to the treatment. This does not stop people, however. If you want straight hair you want it.

But in the end it does not really matter. People will do what they want to do. If they want to go for this type of treatment they will do so. The results are known. People want soft hair, straight hair and healthy hair. And so they should. But is it worth the sacrifice of offering your health at all.

One thing remains certain. Women will always want their hair to be the way fashion dictates. They will straighten it or wave it, depending in the moods of the current fashion. And it is not only women that adhere to the dictates of fashion. Increasingly, men are also prone to fashion prescriptions. And of course there is nothing wrong with that.
