Using Facial Exercises For Eyes

By Ines Flores

Everyone hopes to age gracefully with minimal damage to their face caused by wrinkling and drooping. Skin loses its elasticity over time and one of the first noticeable places this happens is around the eyes. Expensive creams, fillers, Botox and cosmetic surgery are viable solutions for some people but not everyone can afford to be this extravagant. The alternate and far more natural solution is facial exercises for eyes.

Wrinkles can appear in your eye area from squinting, smoking, excessive exposure to the sun and from sleeping on your face. Those who work in outdoor professions need to wear sun screen on a daily basis to protect their skin. Reading, smoking and exposure to the sun without sun glasses causes people to squint and this will cause crow's feet to form on the side of the face.

Learning how to move the muscles in your face properly can help to stop and in some cases improve the appearance of laugh lines, bags, dark circles and drooping lids. These eye aerobics are not easy to learn but using a mirror when beginning them will help to perfect your technique. Repeating eye muscle movements twice daily will provide results over time.

When you begin these practices it is important to remember to moisturize the eye area first. This skin is very delicate and can be easily damaged when rubbed too vigorously. Rough treatment can also cause more wrinkling to appear after you have finished working on this area. Knowing how to administer the proper techniques on moisturized skin takes practiced skill. It has been suggested that plain water will work in place of moisturizers when necessary.

To help eliminate puffy areas under the eye, one exercise that is recommended is eye tapping. This process stimulates the circulation of blood in the area that is tapped and reduces swelling. Using the pads of your fingers gently pat starting next to the nose, following the contour of your eye continue to the temple area and reverse direction. Repeat this process up to ten times per set twice each day.

Tension and stress will cause wrinkling in your face. To relieve tension from the eye area the technique that works best is to gently pinch the skin on either side of your brow and massage the stress out of it. To help remove existing wrinkles placing a finger on each side of the wrinkle and gently applying pressure for ten second intervals five times daily.

Probably the most intense exercise you will find involves sitting in front of your mirror and attempting to raise the lower lid of your eye in small increments. You may want to hold the upper lid in place when you are learning to do this. The goal is to reach five stages of closure for the lower lids. This exercise will challenge your strength and determination while perfecting the technique but the long term results should make it worth the effort you have put into it.

As with any exercise regimen the benefits of this program are long range but they are the easiest and least expensive form of defense available to combat the inevitable signs of aging.
